Iceland has approximately ten thousand waterfalls, three hundred days of rain per year, and landscapes that look as though the planet is still deciding what shape it wants to take. These photographs were made at ground level — close enough to feel the cold, to hear the water, to understand that scale here is not a photographic trick but a physical fact. From the black sand of Reynisfjara to the ice caves of Breiðamerkurjökull to the rhyolite highlands of Landmannalaugar, this is Iceland as it exists before the helicopter arrives and after the tour buses leave.
What makes Ground different from your aerial work?
Ground is shot entirely at eye level, without a drone or aircraft. It's about scale and texture experienced in person — the cold, the sound, the physical presence of a landscape — rather than pattern and abstraction from above.
Where are these photographs taken?
Primarily Iceland, with additional work from Alabama Hills, California and Tofino, British Columbia.
